THE ONE QUESTION: Ask this to eliminate what is holding you back

WHAT ARE YOUR VALUES? Refill your life

“What is the ONE thing I can do to achieve X, such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”

This question posed by property millionaire Gary Keller in his best-selling book, The One Thing is simple and precise, yet extremely powerful – and a fast catalyst for change. Asking yourself this question may well help to give you the breakthrough that you need for crossing the items off from your to-do-list (or “success list”), and especially for the big life challenges or for example, when planning particular projects.

Being able to laser-focus on what matters is a key leadership (life!) skill, especially in today’s increasingly hectic world, and if you have been part of the Brighter Thinking revolution for a while, you will be aware that the brain is wired to be distracted (and to procrastinate!).

With time being our most precious resource (it can never be renewed) then eliminating the surplus, the unnecessary, anything that could get in the way of the task being completed or project fulfilled, plus the distractions that no longer contribute to our happiness, are essential for swift success.

Of course, speed of execution is another key leadership trait. The ability to be decisive and then take the right action is the difference between success and failure. By focusing on doing the one thing, the actions almost set themselves as the way forward becomes extremely clear.

In addition, when we focus on making things easier for ourselves, we are so much more energised. Unfortunately, we can have a habit of making things harder for ourselves, which is like dragging multiple millstones around, slowing progress and fulfilment.

So be brave and ask yourself the question. Yes, you may not like the answer (hence the need for courage!) however I guarantee that trusting and acting upon your intuitive response will enable you to do the one thing that you would really like to do this year and be reflecting brain-friendly peak performance. Not least, it will probably give your mojo a boost!
