CARPE DIEM: SEIZE THE DAY (MONTH!)!

HOW TO INCREASE SELF-BELIEF
NEW YEAR, NEW ENERGY, NEW GOALS!

Six weeks into the year, and how are you getting on? What do you think of your progress towards your priorities so far? How do you feel about keeping your commitments to yourself i.e. what you said that you were going to do?

Whether you are on track or if some things have fallen to the wayside, I hope that you are continually championing your success, and encouraging those around you. As always with these monthly Brighter Thinking Tips, the aim is to provide motivation and brain-friendly thinking for your reflection – and action.

As February is associated with love due to a certain Saint Valentine (it’s not a global tradition: celebrating 14 February is banned in some countries), how loving are you being to yourself? You may think that this is not anything to bother about, however, the concept of how you treat yourself (personally and at work) is a frequent topic with my life coaching and executive coaching clients – including at Board level. This is because we seem to be generally much kinder to others than ourselves.

Indeed, the 17 February is Random Acts of Kindness Day which focuses on doing something thoughtful and spontaneous, often for a stranger (watch the 90 second video above). This of course, is a wonderful thing to do every day. It’s great for the recipient and kindness is brain-friendly for you too, with a myriad of health benefits including activating the reward circuitry (as if you were the receiver), known as the helper’s high.

What about how kind you are being to you, though?

Are you staying stuck when you know that it would be better for your happiness and overall life satisfaction if you moved on? If yes, be inspired by North America’s Groundhog Day (2 February) which my questions for you can be found here.

Could you be having more fun and doing more of what you love? Find out with my ratings questions here.

However, if you are finding it difficult to motivate yourself and take action, on 26 February, it is Carpe Diem Day. So, challenge yourself that this is the day when you do something about whatever it is that you have not done (or completed) yet. You could of course make a whole month of it… well, this is a Leap year!
